LT. Mark Michalek - URT CommanderThe Buffalo Police Underwater Recovery Team is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week to
provide the public with the best, well educated divers, ready at anytime to go anywhere for any water
related rescue or recovery.
Police URT diving is demanding and hazardous. The URT performs dive operations in all types of
water, ranging from rivers, ponds, lakes and creeks. Dive Team must be prepared to dive under any
conditions, hot, cold, rain or snow.
Types of duties performed by the Buffalo Police Underwater Recovery Team
- Human and animal rescue - recovery
- Weapons - Evidence recovery
- Underwater crime scene investigations
- Vehicles, boats - recovery
- Swift water - River rescue
- Ice rescue - Ice diving recovery
- Flood evacuation
